Harrah’s New Orleans Casino
New Orleans, LA
Harrah’s New Orleans Casino, the only land-based casino in Louisiana, is located at the foot of Canal Street on the former site of the Rivergate Convention Center. The project consisted of two sub-levels housing parking and operations; two gaming levels; a 500 seat, multi-level performing theater and various mechanical mezzanine levels. The copper roof and brick clad structure integrate both architectural precast concrete details and simulated stone fiberglass reinforced panels. High level finishes which include designs by the Mardi Gras float designer Blaine Kern create an atmosphere of the famous New Orleans Carnival on both gaming levels.
Interesting features associated with the construction of the casino included the reuse of the previous structure as a cost savings measure. Constrained by the foundation layout, the casino was designed on a skew thus adding to the complexity of design and construction.
