The Troubadour Hotel

Located on the corners of Gravier and Rampart Streets, the building, previously known as the Rault Center, is primarily remembered for a fire on November 29, 1972 that consumed the entire building.  That fatal fire led to state and national law requiring all high-rise buildings to have sprinkler systems. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places due to its Modern Movement: New Formalist architectural style.

The 16,400 square foot wood and masonry-framed building was gutted and carefully restored to accommodate a different floor-plan. The project called for renovating the first two floors for dining, private parties, three new kitchens, and a wine room/storage space with a capacity of 15,000+ bottles, and the third floor for the restaurant’s business offices.

St. Bernard Parish, LA

The 34th District Judicial Courthouse in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, is a prime example of the resilience of a region that has withstood tests of time and disaster, natural and man-made. The imposing Art Deco structure has survived two Hurricanes, a “flood of the century”, evacuations and mold infestation. But, fortunately, thanks to the foresight and skills of its renovation and preservation team, the St. Bernard Parish Courthouse has returned to its place as the heart and soul of the parish.

An old taxi cab warehouse and abandoned surrounding properties were transformed in Louisiana’s first state-of-the-art media production facility and the nation’s first independent green film studio.  Located in the lower garden district of New Orleans, and overseen by the HDLC, the project consisted of a one square block renovation connecting four existing historic buildings and the construction of a new five-story building.
