There were three distinct parts of this project: the renovation of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the renovation of the Pediatric Wing (PEDS) and the construction of a swing unit to connect the Women's Unit to PEDS. The construction of the 11,000 square foot PICU required complete demolition of the existing interior space and construction it anew. The result is a child and family-friendly atmosphere housing state-of-the-art equipment. The PEDS portion of the job was a 20,000 square foot renovation including the refurbishment of 30 existing patient rooms, and the updating of the HVAC system. The swing unit was new construction performed on the roof of the third floor of the hospital which presented many unique challenges. Work had to be performed in such a manner as to not interrupt the operation of the hospital.
