New Orleans’s only four-star hotel, the Windsor Court Hotel, completed its first major renovation since opening in 1984. As the general contractor for the project, Landis Construction was responsible for the fast-tracked project that included overhaul of the hotel’s 316 guest rooms, public spaces and meeting rooms, as well as the addition of a new bar, pool and full-service spa. Work began on the elite hotel in June 2011, with a carefully-phased overhaul of guest rooms and suites, from the 3rd to the 22nd floor. To meet the strict guideline, construction crews began working on a new floor every week, with as many as six floors under construction at one time. The typical daily shift ran 16 hours, seven days a week. Throughout the process, 70 percent of the hotel remained opened for business. Modifications to the guest rooms included new layouts, finished and colors for the rooms. Several of the rooms were also redesigned to meet ADA compliance standards.
New additions to the hotel included a sales office on the third floor and meeting rooms on the fourth floor. Additionally, a new small but elegant cocktail bar was added adjacent to the Le Salon tearoom. Another new addition to the hotel was a 4,500 square foot full-service spa. The area includes 10 treatment rooms and a unique reception area. The ceiling of the reception is completely covered with LED-backlit lighting with Swarovski crystals, only the second of its kind in the U.S.
